SLEEP TIL NOON
A play based on the novel by Max Shulman
Adapted by Douglas W. High and Glenn Havlan
Directed by Glenn Havlan
Adapted by Douglas W. High and Glenn Havlan, Sleep Till Noon is a
snappy satire/comedy about Harry Riddle, a poor, simple young man who lucks into a marriage to wealth.
The target of Shulman's withering satire is the burgeoning suburbia of the post-World War II
America, the ruthless nature of business and the natural business of marriage. Characteristically,
Shulman treats his serious subjects with a light, innocent humor that
occasionally shows a flash of his sharp, critical wit. Shulman's dialogue is his strength
as a writer. In Sleep Till Noon he provides crisp, funny lines that transfer nicely
from the page to the stage.
Max Shulman also wrote the Broadway show The Tender
Trap, the novel Rally Round the Flag, Boys (later a
film starring Paul Newman) and the laugh-out-loud Doby Gillis stories.
As always, Mr Shulman provides sharp, funny dialogue for his characters that
translates well from the page to the stage.
Prepared for the stage by Douglas W. High and Glenn
Havlan, SFFCT's production of Sleep Till Noon features a cast of fifteen actors.
Eleven of the performers form an ensemble group and
play three or four roles each.
